Captain Gary Ayars

Gary AyarsCaptain Gary Ayars joined the ranks of the Riverton Volunteer Fire Department in 1981 at the age of 29, holding various offices and duties.
 
As a combat fireman in his younger years he saved countless lives and property placing his own life in jeopardy for the good of his fellow citizens.  
 
Gary was awarded the Citation of Merit in 1991, for his outstanding contributions to the department and his community.
 
Gary was appointed Fire Captain in 1993, serving the department as a fire ground officer. At the time of his death Gary served our department as the Supply Captain. Gary ensured the safety of all firemen by updating and maintaining our protective clothing and personal equipment.
 
 
Gary was an instrumental part of our organization, and gave countless hours of support and leadership. Gary led the department in obtaining over $25,000 dollars in Fill The Boot contributions to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, so that crippled children may enjoy life.
 
On April 12th, 2006 Gary suddenly passed away.  We will never forget his spirit, support, and dedication to our Department and community.  Gary was a good man, and a great fireman.  He is sadly missed by all.
