Fire Prevention Programs

At the Riverton Volunteer Fire Department, we believe that the first step in fire prevention is education. With a long-standing tradition in the Riverton community, we are dedicated to keeping the public informed about fire safety.

Fire Prevention Initiatives

During the month of October, in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week, we host several fire prevention programs aimed at educating our youth. Each year, we have the privilege of instructing over 3,000 children on essential fire safety practices.

In addition to our school programs, we actively extend our Fire Prevention Program to various community groups and organizations. Recently, we have visited senior citizen facilities, assisting staff and residents with fire escape routes and providing critical fire safety information.

Fire Prevention Open House

Join us for our Fire Prevention Open House, an engaging and informative event designed to promote community safety and awareness. This open house provides an excellent opportunity for families and individuals of all ages to learn more about fire safety while interacting with our dedicated firefighters and other emergency service agencies.

Event Highlights:

  • Facility Tours: Visitors will have the chance to tour our fire station, where they can see our fire engines and equipment up close. Our firefighters will explain the various tools and gear used in firefighting and rescue operations.

  • Fire Safety Demonstrations: Attendees will witness live demonstrations showcasing critical fire safety techniques, including the proper use of fire extinguishers, safe evacuation procedures, and methods for preventing kitchen fires. These demonstrations are designed to equip participants with practical skills that can make a difference in emergency situations.

  • Interactive Learning Stations: Various learning stations will be set up throughout the facility, each focusing on a different aspect of fire safety. Topics may include smoke alarm maintenance, home fire escape planning, and the importance of creating a family emergency plan.

  • Meet Local Emergency Services: This open house is a collaborative event featuring representatives from other emergency services, such as law enforcement and medical response teams. Attendees can engage with these professionals, ask questions, and learn how different agencies work together to keep our community safe.

  • Free Fire Safety Materials: We will provide complimentary fire safety literature and resources for families to take home. These materials will include tips for preventing fires, guidance on emergency preparedness, and information on local fire codes.

  • Refreshments and Activities: Enjoy refreshments while engaging in fun activities designed for children, including fire truck displays and educational games that teach fire safety concepts in an enjoyable manner.
